Welcome to the Oz DeLorean Website ....

he initial OzDeLorean web site was established in 2000 by Rick Haslewood primarily as a general-interest site for Australian DeLorean owners and enthusiasts.  It has since been redesigned to this current format.

In 2000, there were only 10 known DeLoreans in Australia, and once word spread of the existence of an Australian-specific website, it was soon evident that there were many more.  Currently it is not known how many DeLoreans are in Australia, but an estimation would put the figure at close to 80 or higher.

Year 2011 saw the DeLorean reach the magic age of 30 years, which until then, prevented owners of left-hand drive cars from driving or registering their vehicles in Australia.  The year also saw the emergence of several unknown left-hand drive DeLoreans, which, until this time, had been kept in storage and prevented from being driven.  The 30-year mark removed the requirement to have costly right-hand conversions done, which in turn, saw an increased number of DeLoreans imported into Australia.

One must agree that the DeLorean is a most fascinating car with its popularity and demand rapidly soaring.  One only must attend a car show where a DeLorean is on display to capture the aura of this vehicle amongst the spectators and the exhibitors of other vehicles, for it is without doubt, the DeLorean captures the most attention.

Australian DeLorean Gatherings

There has been three major gatherings of DeLoreans in Australia, the first being in Canberra in October of 2007 with another event in Melbourne the following year.  The last one was held in Coffs Harbour, New South Wales in March 2014 which comprised mostly Queensland and New South Wales owners.  All events were very successful which attracted many cars and several enthusiasts.  Probably the largest day run recorded was in Brisbane on 07 January 2012, when 19 Brisbane owners gathered at Comslie Beach Reserve for a run to Victoria Point.

Photos of these events and runs may be found in the ‘DeLoreans On Show’ section of this website.

Australian DeLorean Club

The question is often asked whether there is a specific Australian DeLorean club.  To our knowledge there isn′t, however, many DeLorean owners in Australia belong to registered (incorporated) car clubs.  This has a two-fold incentive for it allows those owners who are desirous of taking advantage of concessional registration to do so, and it also allows owners to enjoy driving their cars in the company of other classic cars.

Concessional registration, which is substantially cheaper to full registration, is available to vehicles 30 years or older providing the owner is a member of an incorporated car club.  There are some restrictions on vehicle use depending on the state or territory in which the vehicle is registered.

In Australia, most DeLorean owners enjoy associating by having runs and outings with fellow owners and enthusiasts within their region.
